Depression
Depression is a general and serious mental illness that negatively influences how you think, the way you think and how you respond. Depression causes sentiments of sadness or a loss of concern in activities you once fancied. Depression can lead to a variety of emotional and dynamic problems and can reduce your ability to function in your daily life.
Cause of Depression
There are two main categories where depression can be classifieds.
The first one is the endogenic and the second one is Exogeni
Endogenic
Endogenic occurs due to the appearance of an interior (cognitive, biological) stressor and these could be a biological stressor, brain chemistry, genetic etc.
1. Biological Stressor
According to National Institute of Mental Health, Postpartum depression is reported in 10-15% of women. It is produced due to hormonal fluctuations after pregnancy
2. Brain Chemistry
Decreased levels of brain substances called serotonin to affect our happiness and mood centres in the brain pointing to low mood and loss of concern and engagement.
3. Genetic
Family records of depressions increase the probability of being diagnosed with depression
Exogenic
Exogenic occurs due to the appearance of an outside stressor and these stressors can be a social stressor, environmental stressor, seasonal affective disorder, abuse etc.
1. Social Stressor
If we talk about social stressor then it could be loss of a loved one, physical/sexual abuse, economic crisis, shock, chronic or terminal illness, substance use etc.
2. Environmental Stressor
Seasonal Affective Disorder- Depression is triggered by a lack of exposure to sunlight
3. Abuse
A significant life change (Divorce) and trauma (Grief, or Breakup) may not identically hit two people due to their deviations in biological partiality and coping tools.
How to Deal with Depression?
